I recently found this Wing Chun documentary and thought to share it with the rest of the community.
It’s filmed in China, Hong Kong, and Macau and most likely made for a Chinese market (it’s all in Chinese).
Luckily, it has English subtitles. And unlike other translations, this one is pretty good.
Since it’s in Chinese it’s like taking a peek behind the curtain to get a glimpse of something not meant for outsiders to watch. Pretty cool.
I really like how it tries to scientifically test Wing Chun principles. Starting at around mark 12:40, they bring in the scientist and all kinds of cool testing equipment.
They do a pretty good job illustrating everything and explaining it in the subtitles. Many application clips are shown and demonstrated, along with some scientific explanation as to why or how they work.
What’s also great is how it interviews a lesser known lineage (in the West at least): Sigong Lui Ming Fai -> Sigong Ho Kam Ming -> Ip Man. I believe he’s even hooked up to a bunch of goofy scientific equipment and turned into Wing Chun guinea pig, all for our benefit!
