Hey, I have been studying Wing Chun for two months now and I feel like this is something I was made to do.

I practice Sil Lum Tao and Chum Kiu back-to-back everyday, nine times each followed by stepping and punching drills. I also practice basic Sil Lum Tao techniques. Should I incorporate more training into this set up or stick with what I have for now?

Answer: Eric, welcome to the club! It’s normal to fall in love and get addicted to Wing Chun, it happens to a lot of us.

Definitely keep up your after class training! It’s the best and fastest way I know to advance quickly, especially in the beginning.

Just make sure to get tweaks from sifu when you’re in class, and incorporate the refinements to your solo training.

If you have the time to add more drills to your schedule, go for it.

The one caution I have, from personal experience, is be careful with burnout. Make sure to schedule in breaks and let your body and mind rest for a few days at a time, especially if you’re pushing it like you are.

Keep up the great work!
